Documents, Costs and Admission Requirements
For applicants from Eastern Europe, successful admission depends less on competition based on school grades than on accurate document preparation. The main stages are choosing a programme, obtaining recognition of secondary education, adding an apostille, translating documents, proving Spanish proficiency, registering with the university and regularising immigration status.
Rules must be checked before every admission cycle. Since May 2025, Argentine public universities have been permitted to charge tuition fees to international students who do not hold permanent residency. Each university decides independently whether to introduce such fees.
A safe application timeline begins approximately 8–12 months before the intended start of study.
• First, choose the university and programme, then check faculty requirements, the language of instruction and admission rules for international applicants.
• Prepare the school-leaving certificate and transcript. Secondary-education documents usually require an apostille or another accepted form of legalisation.
• Documents not issued in Spanish must be translated in accordance with the requirements of the Argentine authorities and the chosen university.
• A foreign school qualification must be recognised in Argentina. Applicants from countries with a relevant agreement use the convalidación procedure; applicants from other countries use reconocimiento.
• After recognition, complete university registration. The faculty may also require a preparatory cycle, introductory modules or another admission procedure.
• After arrival, students must regularise their immigration status. Temporary student residency for a full university programme is processed through the RaDEX system.
Public and Private Universities
Argentina has a large network of public universities, including the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Universidad Nacional de La Plata and Universidad Nacional de Córdoba.
Following legislative changes in 2025, tuition-free public higher education is guaranteed for Argentine citizens and foreign nationals with permanent residency. Public universities may charge international students who do not hold permanent residency.
Can an international student still study free of charge? Yes. The law permits public universities to charge such students but does not require them to do so. Each institution makes its own decision.
• As of August 2026, the Universidad de Buenos Aires stated on its official CBC page that undergraduate programmes remained free for Argentine and international students.
• The Universidad Nacional de La Plata also continued to describe its education as public and tuition-free. Some UNLP faculties explicitly stated that they charged neither registration nor tuition fees.
Applicants for the 2027 cycle must verify the current financial terms directly on the relevant faculty’s official website before applying.
Tuition Fees at Private Universities
Private universities differ from public institutions primarily in their funding and admission procedures. Students pay tuition regardless of citizenship or immigration status. The total cost may include an application or enrolment fee, matrícula, monthly tuition payments or fees calculated according to the selected modules. Argentine universities regularly revise their charges during the academic year, so the price at enrolment may differ from a figure published several months earlier.
Private universities may appeal to applicants because they often provide a more centralised admission process, multiple start dates, online study options and individual admissions support. However, the rules for foreign school qualifications still apply: the qualification must undergo the reconocimiento or convalidación procedure required by Argentine law.
Universidad de PalermoIt is located in Buenos Aires and has one of the most prominent systems of work with international students among private universities in the country. The University offers programmes in business, international relations, communications, design, architecture, law, engineering and digital technologies.
International applicants can choose programmes such as Licenciatura en Relaciones Internacionales, Licenciatura en Comercio Internacional, Licenciatura en Publicidad, Arquitectura, Abogacía, Ingeniería en Ciencia de Datos and Licenciatura en Inteligencia Artificial. Many are available on campus, online or in a blended format.
Admission begins with an electronic application. After registration, you must provide a passport, birth certificate, secondary education document and other materials provided for by the selected programme. International legalization is required for school documents obtained outside Argentina. With the participation of the issuing country, an apostille is used in the Hague Convention.
Documents are required to be translated in Argentina from a registered public interpreter with the subsequent legalization of the translation by a professional board.Special attention is paid to the Spanish language. All major university programmes are taught in Spanish. Applicants from countries where Spanish is not their first language are interviewed and given free language diagnostics before class starts. Understanding of written text, written speech and oral communication are checked. In case of insufficient level, the university has the right to refuse admission or allow study while passing a paid Spanish language course.
Financial modelincludes a separate entrance fee and subsequent tuition fees. On the pages of a number of programmes in July 2026, the standard Initial Processing Fee for applicants residing outside Argentina was listed at $800. The temporary promotion reduced the payment to $160, but was only valid until July 26, 2026. Therefore, the reduced amount cannot be used as actual value after the completion of the promotion.
The public programme pages do not state one fixed price for the entire degree. Applicants must request the current tuition schedule after choosing the programme and mode of study.Universidad Austral
It is a private university with strong areas in business, economics, law, communications, engineering and medicine. The main campus is located in Pilar in the province of Buenos Aires.Bachelor-level programmes include Administración de Empresas, Economía Empresarial, Relaciones Internacionales, Marketing, Negocios Digitales, Abogacía and other areas.For many programmes, there are three entry models: Curso de Ingreso, Ingreso Directo and Pase Universitario.
• Curso de Ingreso is an admission course followed by the university’s academic assessments. Ingreso Directo allows eligible applicants to enter without the standard course. For some programmes, direct admission is available to graduates of schools that have agreements with Universidad Austral and an average grade of at least 8, holders of a full International Baccalaureate diploma with at least 30 points, and AICE holders with at least 220 points. A high average grade from an ordinary Eastern European school does not by itself guarantee direct entry because the school-agreement condition still applies. The usual route may therefore be Curso de Ingreso or an individual admissions decision.
• Pase Universitario is designed for applicants who have already completed university studies. It is necessary to provide programmes of studied disciplines to analyze possible academic equivalents, pay for the consideration of documents and undergo an interview with a representative of the programme.
• Universidad Austral also accepts international exchange students. At the Faculty of Ciencias Empresariales, participants with B2 Spanish may attend regular classes taught in Spanish. Some individual modules are available in English for students without sufficient Spanish. This applies primarily to incoming exchange programmes and does not indicate the availability of a fully English-taught bachelor’s degree.Current grado pages do not publish a single open cost of full tuition. Financial calculation is provided after choosing a referral and contacting the Admissions department. Therefore, when comparing Universidad Austral with a public university, it is necessary to request the matrícula, the size of the regular arancel and the rules for reviewing payments for a particular academic cycle.
Universidad Torcuato Di Tella
It is considered one of the strongest private universities in Argentina in economics, business, social sciences and international studies.
Among the grado programmes are Economía, Economía Empresarial, Administración de Empresas, Estudios Internacionales, Ciencia Política y Gobierno, Ciencias Sociales, Derecho, Arquitectura, Diseño and Tecnología Digital. In March 2027, the university also launches Ingeniería Industrial with Business Intelligence and AI, Mecatrónica y Sistemas Inteligentes, Producción y Sustentabilidad and Gestión de Negocios.
The admission model is markedly different from UBA. Universidad Torcuato Di Tella conducts an academic selection.
The first option provides direct admission based on strong school performance. For the Argentine system, the university has an average score of at least 8. In addition, high results of international exams, achievements in mathematical Olympiads and previous studies at another university are taken into account.
The second option is Curso de Ingreso. The applicant must successfully pass two disciplines, the set of which depends on the chosen programme. Among the introductory disciplines, mathematics, academic writing and social disciplines are used. The course can take place in person or online.
For the initial application, an international applicant may submit the identification page of a passport instead of an Argentine DNI, together with school documents and a photograph. After a positive decision, the applicant pays a reserva de vacante to secure the place.
A foreign school diploma must be legalized and passed reconocimiento or convalidación. The Universidad Torcuato Di Tella separately warns that documents are recommended to be apostilled before arriving in Argentina. Translation is performed after apostillation, as the content of the apostille must also be translated. Documents in a foreign language are translated by an Argentine public interpreter.
The cost of major grado programmes on the general Admissions page as a fixed annual amount has not been published. After obtaining the admission, the reserva de vacante is paid, then the current system of university tuition fees is applied.
One of Universidad Torcuato Di Tella’s strengths is its established financial-aid system. Its admissions page states that 62% of undergraduate students receive some form of support. Options include merit scholarships, need-based assistance and the Préstamo de Honor. In some categories, support may cover up to 100% of tuition fees.
International applicants must verify their eligibility for each type of assistance separately because some schemes depend on school type, place of residence or other criteria.
The university is a particularly interesting option for applicants considering economics, business, international relations, political science and digital technologies and ready to undergo a competitive admission procedure.
Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina
The school has campuses in Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Paraná and Rosario. The set of programmes depends on the campus.
Administración de Empresas, Economía Empresarial, Relaciones Internacionales, Ciencias Políticas, Historia, communication programmes, Abogacía and other areas are available for admission to Buenos Aires. Other campuses feature psychology, marketing, medicine, engineering and business programmes. In August 2026, UCA conducted a separate second set for a significant number of programmes.
The format of admission depends on the faculty and programme. Curso de Ingreso operates in separate units. Therefore, conditions cannot be transferred from one UCA specialty to another without checking the faculty page.
The UCA financial model is much more transparent. For each academic year, the student pays matrícula and 11 monthly cuotas. The main monthly payments are distributed from March to January of the following year. On admission in the second semester, matrícula is paid in August, after which payments are accrued from September to January. A new annual payment cycle begins in February.
The UCA explicitly warns of periodic cost revisions to grado and pregrado programmes. The university recommends checking your personal account every month, as the current arancel may change throughout the year.
Therefore, calculating the budget only by multiplying the original monthly cost by 11 can give the wrong result. For financial planning, it is necessary to take into account possible indexation during the academic year.
UCA also offers scholarships, university loans and reduced tuition fees. Some schemes provide a partial or complete waiver of monthly tuition payments. The annual matrícula may be excluded from the award.
The exact size of the mensal arancel varies by programme and campus and is not published as a single sum on the general information page of the university. Before admission, it is necessary to obtain a financial calculation directly from the selected faculty.
How to compare the cost of private universities?Private universities should not be compared using a single figure shown on a website. Arancel de Ingreso, matrícula, reserva de vacante and monthly cuota refer to different charges. Universidad de Palermo lists a separate application fee for international applicants; Universidad Torcuato Di Tella requires a reserva de vacante; UCA charges an annual matrícula plus 11 monthly payments; and Universidad Austral calculates costs according to the programme and provides details through its admissions office. Before deciding, request the full first-year cost, number of compulsory payments, current matrícula or reserva de vacante, monthly cuota, indexation rules, admission-course fees, other administrative charges and available financial support. International applicants should specifically request the rate for estudiantes internacionales. An outdated price in Argentine pesos or a temporary promotional discount can substantially distort the true budget.
What Level of Spanish Is Required?
International applicants normally need Spanish at CEFR level B2 or C1. The exact requirement depends on the university and programme. Because most degree programmes are taught in Spanish, B2 or above is a sensible minimum. The Universidad de Buenos Aires requires applicants with school qualifications from non-Spanish-speaking countries to demonstrate C1 Spanish, for example through SIELE Global C1 or an equivalent UBA certificate.
UBA Requirements
UBA requires C1 Spanish from applicants whose school-leaving qualification was obtained in a non-Spanish-speaking country. This requirement has applied since December 2023.
UNLP Requirements for International Students
UNLP requires applicants whose first language is not Spanish to provide evidence of sufficient proficiency. CELU and CertEA are among the recognised certificates. The faculty determines the required level and may accept equivalent evidence.
UNC, CELU and SIELE Requirements
UNC regulates language requirements through its own university rules. International applicants should check current CELU requirements and faculty regulations immediately before registering. CELU is an Argentine certificate of Spanish proficiency accepted by several universities. UBA lists SIELE Global C1 as valid evidence for applicants from non-Spanish-speaking countries.
Can You Study in Argentina in English?
Most standard undergraduate programmes at major public universities are taught in Spanish. Individual modules and international programmes may be available in English, but applicants should not assume that UBA, UNLP or UNC offers a fully English-taught bachelor’s degree without checking the specific programme.
When Should You Apply to Argentine Universities for 2027?
Argentina has no single national application deadline for the 2027 academic year. Each university—and often each faculty—sets its own pre-registration period, school-document deadline, admission-course dates and final enrolment date. As of 8 August 2026, some institutions had published their 2027 calendars, while UBA and several faculties at other public universities had not confirmed final dates. International applicants should therefore begin preparing 8–12 months before the intended start of study rather than waiting for registration to open.
• The main academic year begins in February or March, so much of the 2027 admission cycle takes place during the second half of 2026. August and September are a sensible time to select universities, check Spanish-language requirements, begin any required language certification, arrange the apostille and identify the correct procedure for recognising secondary education. Waiting until registration opens in November may leave insufficient time for the apostille, translation and reconocimiento process.
• InUniversidad de Buenos AiresThe exact timing of the first set for 2027 as of August 8, 2026 has not yet been published. The UBA indicates that enrollment of new CBC students opens before the beginning of each semester and includes several separate stages: Preingreso a la UBA, submission of documents, selection of sede and turno. All activities must be performed in the periods established by the university. For admission from the beginning of the 2027 academic year, it is necessary to closely follow the CBC calendar in the autumn of 2026. It is almost reasonable to have the basic set of documents ready by October or early November. Foreign school graduates need to consider extra time for reconocimiento or convalidación school education, proof of Spanish proficiency and subsequent legalization of documents at UBA.
• Universidad Nacional de La PlataIt has already outlined a general admission model for 2027. UNLP reports that registration for all 17 faculties will take place from mid-November to mid-December 2026. The exact dates must be fixed by a separate university resolution. Some faculties have already included preliminary dates in their own calendars. The UNLP Faculty of Engineering plans to open the reception on November 9, 2026, and complete it on December 11, 2026, but both dates have been confirmed. The start of the Matemática para Ingeniería for new students is scheduled for 25 January 2027, with first-year classes starting on 8 March 2027. Such a calendar shows the specifics of the Argentine admission: between the end of the admission of documents in December and the beginning of basic education in March, there may be a separate introductory academic stage.
• For international UNLP students, it is important to distinguish between the date of online registration and deadlines for submission of documents. Initial registration may remain conditional until the faculty receives mandatory documentation. The materials of individual faculties set a deadline of 27 November 2026 for the confirmation of residencia precaria, temporaria or permanente by international students already undergoing the appropriate registration cycle, and the final foreign school diploma with recognition by the Argentine authorities must be submitted by 26 February 2027. Therefore, the absence of a ready-made reconocimiento on the day of the online admission does not always block registration, but it is risky to postpone the recognition of the certificate until February.
• InUniversidad National de CórdobaThere are no general admission dates for all programmes. The calendar greatly depends on the faculty. Preparatory cycles of some faculties for admission in 2027 have already begun in the summer of 2026. FaMAF, Faculty of Mathematics, Astronomy, Physics and Computational Sciences, has opened pre-registration for the early Curso de Nivelación from June 1 to July 15, 2026. The course itself runs from July 24 to November 14, 2026. An additional intensive option is scheduled for January and February 2027, and the final registration of students is due in early February 2027. FaMAF also announces a new registration period in November and December 2026 for the preparatory course to be held in January and February 2027.
• The UNC Faculty of Economic Sciences uses a different scheme. For Ingreso 2027, early pre-registration at the Ciclo de Nivelación Anticipado took place from 25 to 29 June 2026, and the preparatory cycle itself is scheduled from 3 August to 5 December 2026. In addition, the usual Ciclo de Nivelación will be held in February and March 2027, the exact date of registration for this option has not yet been announced. The UNC Faculty of Dentistry has already determined the main admission period for 2027 from 2 November to 11 December 2026. The difference between faculties shows why it is not enough to check only the home page of the university when applying to UNC. It is necessary to control the calendar of a particular carrera and faculty.
• Private universities generally provide a more flexible admission model.The Universidad de Palermo has already published an academic calendar for 2027. The first semester begins on March 1, 2027, the second semester begins on August 2, 2027. The university accepts applications through an online system, after which the applicant pays the required entrance fee and uploads the documents to MyUP. There is no universal admission closing date for all grado programmes as of March 2027. Therefore, it is reasonable for an international student planning to start their studies on March 1 to apply in the fall of 2026 rather than just before the start of the semester. Additional time will be required for the apostille of school documents, translation and recognition of secondary education.
• Universidad Austral also accepts students through its own Admissions system. The university offers several routes including Curso de Ingreso, Ingreso Directo and Pase Universitario. For foreigners, a passport, recognition of a school diploma and subsequent registration of an Argentine residence and a DNI are separately provided. There is no single published filing date for all 2027 programmes, so the date depends on the chosen carrera and the form of admission. Preparatory courses can start much earlier than the main academic year, so it is advisable to start applying to Admissions in the second half of 2026.
A practical 2027 timeline is as follows. Use August and September 2026 to finalise programme choices, verify requirements and arrange the apostille. Use September and October for translations, reconocimiento or convalidación and the required Spanish certificate. October to December is the main registration period for institutions including UNLP and UNC and, subject to confirmation, UBA. January and February 2027 are often used to complete document procedures, faculty nivelación courses, CBC and other preparatory stages. Most programmes begin classes in February or March 2027.
The applicant should not focus only on the last date of registration. The optimal strategy involves the availability of basic documents at least one or two months before the opening of the reception. For admission to 2027, the safest period for completing the apostille, translation and preparation of school documentation can be considered October 2026. This reserve allows you to correct errors in documents, pass recognition of foreign education and not depend on short registration periods of individual faculties.

Argentine universities offer a wide range of specialized programmes in economics, management, social sciences, international relations, technology, engineering and other professional fields. The large university system also creates opportunities for academic research, further study and professional contacts in Latin America.

Private universities require a separate tuition budget, but offer additional options for academic support, scholarships and financial assistance.
Argentina is especially interesting for applicants who are ready to study Spanish and independently undergo documentary procedures. Admission requires careful preparation of the certificate or previous diploma, apostille, translation, recognition of education and compliance with university terms.
